Dan Fardell - Lecturer, Designer, Drawer, Thinker

You might say that architectural drawing has been rediscovered. Paul Gapp, Chicago Tribune, 1997

For me drawing bridges the parallel connections between research and ideas. It is the greatest tool one can use to explore and explain the world we live in.

I have worked as an educational practitioner in the area of Art and Design for over eight years. My professional experience includes; the role of Quality Curriculum and Assurance Manager, Foundation Studies Course Leader (Level 4) and a range of lecturing positions in both the Further and Higher Education sectors.

My current teaching duties within Further Education include the delivery of both drawing and contextual studies on the University of Arts London, Foundation Studies Programme, at South Essex College, alongside managing our oversees students studying this programme. Within Higher Education I currently hold the position of Year 01 Unit leader for the BA Architecture and IDEA course at Ravensbourne University London.

In addition to my lecturing roles, I am a qualified External Moderator for UAL and have carried out moderation visits across London and the South East for the past four years.

I am currently responsible for working in partnership with several colleges based in East Asia to develop design related projects and courses alongside pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning, supporting students’ progression into Higher Education institutions based in the UK.

In April 2017 I successfully launched the first Higher Diploma in Interior Design programme in liaison with Chengdu Textile College and will be developing a Higher Diploma In Graphic Design due to launch March 2019.

In 2017, I graduated with an MA in Interior and Spatial Design at Chelsea School of Art, successfully attaining a Distinction award and being awarded the 2017 Deans award. Prior to this I gained a BA (Hons) Degree in Interior Design Environment Architecture at Ravensbourne.

I am committed to continually developing my practice as both a Designer and Educator. The main areas of interest which continue to influence my work are both drawing and context with the focus on a critical approach to ‘mapping,’. This approach is used as a methodology to synthesise; theory, practice and reflective engagement.

Thesis: Critical Research Paper 2017.
